Running
Here is a list of the events I’ve taken part in so far:
11. Sunday 12th August 2007 – Darlington 10km Run
| Official Finish Time – NA | Position – NA |
| Unofficial Time – 49:41 |
My first race in a long while. I’m quite pleased with my time, my aim was to just make it round but I’m happy to have done it in a sub-50 min time. As usual the stretch along Carmel Road was quite tiring.
10. Friday 9th June 2006 – Blaydon Race
| Official Finish Time – 41:54 | Position – 593/3418 |
| Unofficial Time – 41:53 |
This was the first time I’d taken part in this race. I’d been told it was quite flat, which is true. The problem was it was very hot and I started far too fast, I did the first mile in 6 mins.
9. Sunday 21st May 2006 – Great Manchester Run
| Official Finish Time – 44:09 | Position – 1187 |
| Unofficial Time – 44.09 |
This was the second time I’ve completed this race so already knew what the course would be like. I’ve prepared quite hard for it and I’m pleased with the time, begin 10 mins faster than my last attempt. The weather conditions, although raining were quite good.
8. Sunday 18th September 2005 – Great North Run
| Official Finish Time – NA | Position – NA |
| Unofficial Time – 2.34:00 |
This was a good time considering I didn’t realise I was going to be doing the run until 4 days before the event. I’d trained for a 10km run in the previous month, but a car accident and snowboarding lessons prevented me from being able to do much training.
7. Sunday 14th August 2005 – Darlington 10km Run
| Official Finish Time – NA | Position – NA |
| Unofficial Time – 00.52:20 |
Not a bad race, my first in a long time so wasn’t in the best condition. Being in my own town I knew just how long there was to go when a started to feel tired at 7km, it also meant that I knew it was uphill.
6. Sunday 26th September 2004 – Great North Run
| Official Finish Time – 01:55.27 | Position – 6431 |
| Unofficial Time – NA |
I can’t really comment much on this race since I wasn’t there. I was being God Father and my God Daughters Christening, so my friend Ben Hood ran on my behalf. Great time Ben.
5. Sunday 23rd May 2004 – Great Manchester Run (10km)
| Official Finish Time – 00:54.58 | Position – 4,908 |
| Unofficial Time – 00:54.58 |
The Great Manchester Run was a 10km course through the center of Manchester City center, it was quite a flat course and a little boring. It started on Oxford street and and headed out of the city on a rather dull duel carriage way out towards Salford Quays and Old Trafford, it then looped round and headed back to wards the city center on the duel carriage way. I was quite happy with my time since I hadn’t been running for a while due to an ankle injury I’d picked up.
4. Saturday 3rd January 2004 – Great Winter Run
| Official Finish Time – 00:36.22 | Position – 559 |
| Unofficial Time – 00:36.22 |
The Great Winter Run is a 4 mile (6.4km) cross country run through Exhibition Park/Town moor in the center of Newcastle, the weather meant that it was rather muddy, the course includes two quite large hills within the first mile which caused some difficulty. Once these were out of the way the course was quite flat. Me and Simon even made it onto Grandstand, see us here.
3. Sunday 21st September 2003 – Great North Run
| Official Finish Time – 2:04:52 | Position – 11,147 |
| Unofficial Time – 1:57:34 |
This was by far the easiest race in the three years I’ve been doing it, which was to be expected really after all the work I’ve been doing at the gym. The weather on Saturday was terrible but on the morning of the race it was nice and bright.
2. Sunday 6th October 2002 – Great North Run
| Official Finish Time – 2:31:12 | Position – 23,566 |
| Unofficial Time – 2:16:12 |
This year I completed the race alone, I was quite please with my progress as I’d actually done quite a lot of training. Although my official time was two hours thirty one minutes, it should be noted that it took about fifteen minutes to cross the start line.
1. Sunday 16th September 2001 – Great North Run
| Official Finish Time – 3:16:12 | Position – 31,879 |
| Unofficial Time – 3:06:12 |
This was my first year taking part in the Great North Run, I’d been wanting to do it for years but could never find anyone else to run with. In 2001 Jamie a friend from uni also wanted to run. I didn’t feel that I’d prepared as well as I could have, I’d only recently finished my placement year and hadn’t really had the time to do much training.
I could have ran it faster but with about 4 miles to go Jamie hurt his ankle, I should probably mention that he’d not done much training either and was actually running in one day old trainers, plonker! As a result of his injury I had to wait at the St John Ambulance tent while his ankle was strapped up and then walk the last few miles with him.
The most sickening part is that at the finish line he snuck past me and so the records show that he beat me by three seconds!
