Black

Something strange has happened which I can’t explain. For the first time in a long while I feel like turning on my Xbox and doing some damage, so that’s what I’m going to do. Since I’ve got this stupid tickly cough still I don’t think it would be much point going to the gym since I don’t think I’ll get a great deal of running done. So this lunch time I went out and purchased, some Halls Mentho-lyptus (extra strong because I’m hardcore), Beechams Flu Plus Caplets and Black for the Xbox. I saw the advert on tv last night and it looks quite good. I hope its as good as it looks because I’m gonna have to have a major restructure of my room to find somewhere to put my Xbox. For about the past year its lived a neglected life untouched in the bottom of my wardrobe.

The Dreaded Lurgie

For the past two weeks I’ve been fighting a battle that I knew I could not win. All around me people have been suffering from colds, coughs and in some cases ‘man flu’. So far I’ve managed to avoid such illnesses, but finally I’ve succumbed, I felt ok when I got up yesterday but by last night I felt awful. I’ve got a tickly cough and just generally feel a bit run down. Hopefully it might just be a 24 hour thing.

Nearly the weekend

So what exciting things do I have planned for this weekend, well nothing. I was supposed to be going down to Manchester to meet up with Uni mates and generally get very pissed, but I’m a bit poor this month so can’t afford it. I will therefore be trying to spend as little as possible. Its my own fault really, because I bought two sets of T In The Park tickets without actually finding anyone to go with (although that’s now been sorted because Paul wants to come), I’ve also got to pay my insurance for my motorbike on Saturday.

Load of old bowls

So that was a strange evening. I’ve just been to my first AGM of South Park Bowls Cub. I should explain that my mate Scott has been trying to get me to play bowls since we were at college together, its been a long process but eventually he wore me down.

Last season he had an occasion where they were a player short so I volunteered to play if they were really desperate, and towards the end of last season I took part in a bowls fun day and also played in a couple of league games. I’ve now bought my own bowls and am the webmaster of their website so figured that I was committed enough, obviously not because I’ve just been voted onto the management committee. I feel so responsible. It feels most bizarre.

Word to ya motha

Yesterday as with most days began at work, upon logging in I discovered that the CRON jobs I’d setup overnight had been successful in e-mailing me backup copies of my sql databases. The problem I didn’t expect to encounter was that the gallery that I’d set for Scotts Bowls site wasn’t actually working, this was as a result of moving the site to a different location on the server. I spent about an hour trying to get it going again but without success so that can be a little job for the weekend.

I then installed a gravatar plugin for WordPress, this should be good when I’ve got it configured properly as it will show a little icon next to each users comment. Much like an avatar which we are all familiar with. The advantage of gravatars (Globally Recognized Avatar) is that once registered at gravatar.com your gravatar follows you round without the need to upload an avatar to each site your registered with (only if the site uses gravatars as opposed to avatars). At the moment the CSS is causing me issues as it screws up the formatting in Internet Explorer, so this too is going to be assigned the category of something for the weekend.

Boring day

Not much to report today really. I got a bit paranoid about all my sites now been dynamically generated from mysql databases so decided to write a shell script to do a daily backup of all my databases and e-mail them to me. Quality, backup system in place I need never worry again.

Its actually been quite busy at work today so haven’t really had much time to get anything done. All the students in the networked bedrooms were put in quarantine today so we’ve been quite busy today with the users who were unable to update their machines with the latest updates to allow them back onto the network properly.

Going to see Goldie Lookin Chain tomorrow with Phil so hopefully that will be good, either that or it could be quite bad. Aim to get quite drunk anyway so hopefully it won’t be a complete washout.

Oh Betty

So I’ve just returned from Xscape at Castleford and it has been great. I was excellent on the slopes today only falling over once, and that was on my first time down while I was checking out how icy the conditions were. As it turns out they weren’t actually as bad as I feared but still managed to lose grip and slide onto my arse. The remaining one hour fifty five minutes was rather uneventful and a little boring. I’m gonna try and go snowboarding at least once a month to try and keep my skills, but actually quite fancy a trip down on the Thursday night for one of the freestyle board nights when they have the jumps and rails out.

While we were there we popped into Burger King to get something to eat, it was quite an experience. As well as being a purveyor of fine foods, they are now in the business of giving motivational pep talks, here are two fine examples:

Anniversaries

Today is a rather special day, it’s the four-week anniversary since I returned from Andorra, and so to celebrate we’re going down to Castleford. It’s not actually a celebration of coming back from holiday because who likes coming back from holiday, it’s a celebration of how amazing it was. It was a very memorable day for a lot of reasons, but most important was because it was the last time I saw the £15 that Stephen still owes me, this post is a reminder to him, SHOW ME THE MONEY!
